Frequently Asked Questions
What does a session look like?
A session is simply a conversation. It's an opportunity to: (a) calm down and breathe, (b) be more curious about the issues, (c) take steps to grow through those issues.
What makes for a successful counseling experience?
The counseling process can be complex, but there are several things that aid the process. Some of the most important are the fit between the counselor and client, hope, motivation, and openness.
How long does a session last?
An individual session lasts about 50 minutes.
A couples session last about 1 hour.
Extended session are available upon requests.
Will my sessions be confidential?
Yes. I take every measure possible to make sure that clients' identity and information are secure and confidential.
How often would we meet?
That’s entirely up to you. However, once a week is generally viewed as the most helpful in the beginning stages in order to build momentum. Here are three questions I use to help clients find a schedule that works for them. How severe are the symptoms? How flexible is your budget? How motivated are you to change?
Do you offer a sliding scale?
Yes. We offer a sliding scale in an effort to make our services more affordable. A limited number of scholarships are also available.
Do you take insurance?
I currently do not take insurance. I take checks, credit cards, and ACH transfers.
What if I need to cancel my appointment?
I ask that cancellations be made 24 hours before the appointment (I prefer 48 hours).
Your "About Us" page says you're a Christian? Do I need to be one, too?
Nope. I have clients from other faiths, as well as clients who don't hold to any religious beliefs. I enjoy working with people from diverse backgrounds and beliefs, provided we're a good fit otherwise. Every counselor has beliefs and opinions that differ from their clients. What's important is respect for the client and the process.
My spouse likes pineapple on pizza. Can our marriage be saved?
Probably not. However, I am willing to work with almost anyone, even in the most extreme circumstances.
